Local Attractions
The history of the Rocky Mountain west lives in Silver Plume. We have been designated as a National Historic Landmark District. During the peak of its population, Silver Plume was home to more than 2,000 people, mostly Italian and Cornish immigrants mining ore in the towering mountains above town. Around 200 residents now make this place their home. Escape the hustle and bustle of the city and step back in time with a visit to Silver Plume.

The area is dotted with hundreds of old silver mines and narrow gauge railroad beds that have now become wonderful hiking or skiing trails. More than 60% of Clear Creek County is public lands, home to hunters, fisherman, bikers, rafters and four-wheeling enthusiasts. Major attractions include four mountain peaks rising 14,000 feet into the Colorado sky, Guanella Pass and Mt. Evans road, the Georgetown Loop Railroad, the St. Mary's Glacier, Loveland Ski Area, local museums and mining tours of all kinds. Gambling in near-by Central City and Black Hawk are also popular attractions. From late September through October tourists love to drive our mountain roads to view the golden aspen. We've made a listing of some of our favorite Web sites directing you to local attractions and services. Be sure to check out our seasonal events for a description of the best Silver Plume happenings.
